A Message From The Author
Through the years of my Christian experience, daily quiet time with the Lord has become essential and benefited me greatly. It is not only a place where I can pour out to the Lord. It is, more importantly, the place where God pours into me. In addition to prayer and reading God’s Word, I have always read a devotional as part of my daily spiritual exercise.
In the collection of prayers and devotions of the Puritans, it is said that they wrote their thoughts down “to encourage themselves by their re-perusal in times of low spiritual fervor.” I have found their practices to be anchors for my soul. God’s dealings in the depths of other Saints have lifted me to new heights in my sanctified life.
In my collection of writings, I would never claim that they are anything near the standards of men like Spurgeon, Chambers, Baxter, Rutherford, and the like. I began these writings at the beginning of my Pastoral ministry several years ago. I struggled with many of my initial devotions yet chose to leave them in. There is progression. It reminds me of where I was in my early Christian walk and where I am now. My deepest hope and prayer is that these devotions will bring you to the end of yourself, exhort you through the life of sanctification, and leave you at the feet of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
